Holy Matrimony

Congratulations on your decision to participate in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony! It may all seem overwhelming to you, but let us help you through it. The first thing you'll want to do is choose a priest. Call the parish office and make an appointment with him. Once you have done this, he will probably instruct you to start the marriage preparation process by taking the Prepare/Enrich Inventory.

Changes in the marriage preparation program of the Diocese of Lake Charles provides couples with the opportunity to begin the marriage preparation process by taking this inventory in the home environment.

The diocese has moved to the Prepare/Enrich Inventory, which is now emailed to the couples, but may end up entirely online. Newly instituted for the marriage prep program is the ability to register on line and pay fees for the Prepare/Enrich Inventory .

If a couple does not have Internet access at home, they can either go to their parish to register online or come to the office at 411 Iris Street in Lake Charles and use one of several computers designated for that purpose in the Marriage and Family office. Call 337-439-7400 for information, or OLQH at 477-1236.

Prepare/Enrich tailors its questions to your unique situation. If you are older than 55, you will get a different set of questions; if you already have children, a different set of questions; if you are already married and want to enrich your marriage, you will get a different set of questions; if you are living together, different set. All of these situations totally change the dynamic. If you are getting your marriage convalidated, again another set of questions.

After the initial registration online, the office will send via e-mail, a link to take the Prepare/Enrich Inventory. Of course, you can go to the parish or the diocesan office, and take it right then, it takes only 30 to 45 minutes.

The entire process is designed to help keep couples together after the marriage, to help couples see they are not in it on their own.
